This article examines the progress of the asset restitution process from Switzerland to Uzbekistan, focusing on the distribution and administration of the first tranche — $131 million out of the $340 million confiscated to date. The analysis concludes with recommendations for managing the next tranche, aiming to prevent a recurrence of the issues encountered with the first tranche and to ensure Switzerland fully complies with its commitments to the principles adopted in 2017 by the Global Forum on Asset Recovery.
